Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our practice and naturopathic medicine.

General Questions

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary care that emphasizes prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage the body's inherent self-healing process.

Naturopathic doctors (NMDs) in Arizona are trained as primary care physicians and can:

  • Diagnose and treat medical conditions
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging
  • Prescribe pharmaceutical medications when necessary
  • Perform minor surgical procedures
  • Utilize natural therapies including botanical medicine, nutrition, homeopathy, and physical medicine

Our approach focuses on identifying and treating the root cause of disease rather than simply suppressing symptoms.

We treat a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions, including:

  • Cancer support and integrative oncology
  • Chronic pain and joint conditions
  • Hormone imbalances (thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones)
  • Chronic infections including Lyme disease
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Allergies and asthma
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Metabolic conditions and diabetes
  • Mental health support
  • Preventive care and wellness optimization

While naturopathic doctors receive similar training to conventional physicians, the approach differs in several key ways:

  • Root Cause Focus: We investigate and treat underlying causes rather than just managing symptoms
  • Whole-Person Care: We consider physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health
  • Longer Appointments: Initial consultations are typically 60-90 minutes to thoroughly understand your health
  • Natural First: We prefer natural, less invasive treatments when possible, using pharmaceuticals when necessary
  • Prevention Emphasis: We focus heavily on preventing disease through lifestyle and nutrition
  • Collaborative Care: We work alongside your conventional doctors as part of an integrative team

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage collaborative care. We can work alongside your primary care physician, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, comprehensive treatment.

We'll communicate with your other providers (with your permission) and ensure all treatments work together safely and effectively. Integrative care often produces the best outcomes by combining the strengths of multiple approaches.

Insurance & Payment

We are an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans. However, many patients receive partial reimbursement from their insurance companies.

What we provide:

  • Detailed superbills (receipts with medical codes) that you can submit to your insurance
  • Guidance on how to submit for reimbursement
  • Documentation for medical necessity when needed

We recommend calling your insurance company and asking about out-of-network benefits for naturopathic medicine (CPT codes 99201-99215 for office visits). Many PPO plans offer 50-80% reimbursement for out-of-network providers.

We accept multiple payment methods for your convenience:

  • Cash
  • Personal checks
  • Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)
  • Debit cards
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Payment is due at the time of service. For extensive treatment plans, we can discuss payment arrangements.

Yes! Most services at Arizona Integrative Medical Center qualify as eligible medical expenses for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).

This includes office visits, laboratory testing, supplements prescribed for medical conditions, and treatments such as IV therapy. We recommend checking with your HSA/FSA administrator if you have questions about specific services.

  • Immediate hydration

We offer various IV protocols including high-dose Vitamin C, Myers' Cocktail, glutathione, NAD+, and custom formulations based on your needs.

  • Chronic conditions: Typically require 3-6 months of consistent treatment
  • Prolotherapy: Each treatment builds on the last; usually 3-6 treatments needed
